Annunaki | 3D-mallinnos | 2019

Tein produktioni ohjelmistoyritys MeKiwin peliosaston tilauksesta.

Avaruusaluksen mallintaminen sujui ilman suuria ongelmia, aiemman kokemukseni ansiosta.

I created my production by the request of software company MeKiwis gaming department. My task was to create 3D models of an ancient alien called Anunnaki and of their spaceship for MeKiwis VR (virtual reality) -game Cave Digger.

After that I was ment to animate the Anunnaki using a motion capture suit. MeKiwi produced the consept art for both models. Unfortunately I had to wait for both consepts, and the aliens consept got remade after I had already started workind on the model, meaning I had to start again. Modelling the spaceship went smoothly, thanks to my prior experience in 3D modelling, but as I started modelling the Anunnaki I had to think how all the parts would move when animated. I feel I did a rather good job with it. The animating, however, didn’t go quite as planned. I was travelling when the motion capture files were recorded, and was therefore unable to take part in the recording. The people who recorded the files failed to animate the Anunnaki’s staff, and didn’t take their armor into consideration. The scene also had no script and so, the recordings were almost impossible to use. We couldn’t find time to retake the recordings before the sute had to be returned, so in the end I decided to animate the Anunnaki more traditionally, using key frames.  I had no previous experience of 3D animating, so I had to learn it from scatch, which naturally took quite alot of time. Animating the Anunnaki’s skirt was especially troublesome and it took a long time to find a functional solution to it (and an even longer time to do it).  I wasn’t able to finish my production in schedule, but I did manage to produce two good looking 3D models and a smooth animation, all of which are now published in the game.
